Four Methods for Learning How to Play Guitar

Over the last 30 years or so, rock music has continuously increased in popularity. As a result, wanting to learn how to play guitar has also increased in popularity. There are always many teenagers dreaming of their future as a rock superstar, but there are also many people who are interested in learning how to play the guitar simply for the pleasure of it. Many of them, unfortunately, didn’t find helpful ways to learn how to play the instrument, and they gave up after a few unsuccessful attempts.

Each person learns differently. Plus, everyone has different factors and stresses in their life that can impede learning, such as different amounts of resources, different jobs, different errands that need run, and different schedules and duties that need met each day. If you are not playing at the level that you would like, perhaps it is simply because you have not yet found the best method by which you can learn to play guitar. There are various methods for learning how to play guitar. Here are just a few of them.

“How-To” Books on Guitar Playing

If you check out the market, you will be able to find thousands of theory books available that can teach you how to play the guitar. Some of those are actually very good and will equip you with all the information that you should need. Many people view books as an inexpensive and relaxed method for learning how to play guitar. Unfortunately, experience has shown that this method doesn’t work for many people. But if you are the patient type, a music book may well be a suitable way to learn how to play the guitar.

2. Using Video Lessons

Most music stores as well as virtual shops sell DVDs and videotapes that teach guitar lessons. Not only that, some video guitar lessons can be found online. Some of them are actually free of charge. Video lessons are more dynamic and as such there is a better chance that you will remain focused. And there is the advantage of your being able to practice at home at your total convenience. Unfortunately, they cannot give you the personalized attention or feedback that a guitar instructor could give you.

Private Lessons

If you have the time and money to put into this form of lessons, you will find that they are probably the best method to use for learning how to play the guitar. An experienced teacher has the skill to custom-design a learning program that suits your learning style, and a teacher can give you the individualized attention and positive feedback you need. Further, he or she can identify and rectify your errors very quickly.

Learning by Ear

If you have a musical bone in your body and it is filled with vibration, then you might find that learning by ear will be very enjoyable. It may even prove to be the best way for you to learn how to play guitar. With the present slowing down technology, it is much easier than it was for our parents’ generation.

Just remember to make learning to play guitar fun. Should you find the endeavor hard or stressful, it may simply be due to your learning technique. Many times it is a matter of trial and error before you find the method that is going to work the best for you. But if you truly yearn to play the guitar like a pro and have sufficient time and money, taking private lessons is likely the best path to follow.
