Is The Guitar The Coolest Musical Instrument Of All?
Among musical instruments, the age-old battle between the drum set and the guitar rages on. There’s a primal feeling about bashing on a drum set but there’s a more sublime satisfaction when learning to play any kind of guitar, acoustic or electric, really well. The question among men always is, when it comes to instruments; ‘Is the guitar the coolest musical instrument of all?’
At any rate, it can get pretty tiring trying to carry around a drum set on one’s back when being able to carry around any acoustic or electric guitar is a breeze. It’s certainly done its part to entice men and boys into trying to pick it up and learn to play it. In fact, even one of those big and bulky dreadnought acoustic guitar setups sings a siren song of attraction to most guys.
Besides, women really seem to dig men who can play a musical instrument and especially men who can appear to be masters of the guitar. Actually, they may not really like the guy playing the guitar but the sounds coming from it can go a long way towards helping them get over the pushy guy doing the playing. In truth, most men never become that good but all of them believe that they can, so they have that going for them, fortunately.
Think about guitars for second; they have a certain shape to them that just calls out to people to play them. Pick up a nice Alvarez acoustic guitar and give it a run. Many men go wobbly just at the possibility of them being able to learn to play it well enough. Truthfully, very few ever really do learn to really hammer it, but guys have their fantasies about such things, it must be admitted.
Over the last half-century, guitars of all types have come to dominate cultural awareness when it comes to music. Probably, Chuck Berry and his wild playing in the late 50s can be most blamed for the phenomenon. But even somebody sitting around with an acoustic guitar and a lot of classical guitar training will admit that he gets a thrill from playing the opening riff to ‘Johnny B. Goode.’
And that’s the ultimate attraction to the guitar; because playing it — whether sitting down with a very expensive Takamine acoustic guitar or a nice electric axe — is nothing but fun. And when somebody really gets good, and is able to pick up a nice Gibson Les Paul and start wailing on it, the world is truly their oyster.
When looking at everything when it comes to musical instruments and what a guitar can bring, it’s hard to dispute that it’s probably the coolest instrument of all. This is regardless of whether it’s an acoustic or electric; pulling out one of these things and then playing it — however badly — seems to do things to people that puts them instantly at ease and feeling good about themselves.
