Make Your Beats – How to Start

Whether you’re into soul, or hip hop, the surest way to establishing a name for yourself in the music industry remains the same: you should make your beats while still maintaining your own brand of music.

Understandably, the thought of producing self-made beats can be rather daunting. Still, you must do your best to see this as a challenge rather than allowing it to discourage you from pursuing your dreams.

Making Your Beats Count…Start by Mastering Your Genre

Of course, don’t take this advice to the extreme and challenge yourself into developing a totally new genre. While that is surely possible, you might need to broaden your repertoire a bit more before making that your goal. Meanwhile, there is nothing wrong with devoting your precious time to enhancing your skills and expanding your mastery of your preferred genre. Examine the creations of your friends and see if they motivate you into producing your own beats.

By devoting your time to be proficient in your genre, you have already placed yourself a step ahead of equally debuting musicians and enhancing your potential as a music artist.

One admirable thing about today’s music industry is equipment accessibility for aspiring musicians just like you. At present, you don’t need a large mount of money to spend just to get hold of the technology for producing your own music beats.

Producing the ideal beat for your music requires three important components: midi drums, audio loops, and bass line. These components appy to any kind of music so it’s important for you to understand how they function and what they can add to your music.

A music track’s bass line is its underlying frame. It’s composed of a set of beats or notes that will be played from the song’s start to finish and which the other elements need to work with in order to maintain a sense of harmony.

It’s okay to dedicate as much time as you want polishing your bass line. If your bass line doesn’t work, the rest of the song won’t work either.

The second component you need to concentrate on is the audio loop. This is a general favorite among rap and hip hop beat makers. Most of the time, they are used for revising the principal theme or mood of your music. To produce one, just mix a collection of notes from musical instruments or any other source of sound. With audio loops, you’re free to play and experiment in any way you wish until you hit upon the ideal set of beats.

And last but definitely not the least, make sure you create midi drum patterns which go well with the rest of the piece. You can choose to apply one set or pattern of notes or mix various sets. Anything can be done as long as it boosts rather than detracts from your work.

At times, midi drum patterns are not patterns at all. But rather, they’re comprised of a diverse collection of beats but used as repeating loops and acting as something related to a secondary tier of beat or melody.

To sum up: in creating your beats, always begin with building a convincing bass line to stand as your music’s foundation then strengthening it will evenly well-developed audio loops and one or more midi drum patterns.

If you’re ready to make your beats then don’t let anything stop you from creating beautiful music for the entire world to hear.
